I’m on the road with dad, tagging along at Oxford University, the intellectual capital of the world, where dad has been invited to give a master class.

The Honorable Roger Kirby and St. Hilda’s College at the University of Oxford present… LLOYD KAUFMAN MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN MOVIE! MASTER CLASS

Dad is giving a crash course in indie filmmaking, the TROMA way to a packed sold out room of students, journalists, professors, fans and Harry Potter.

Filmmakers and actors dad has worked with, like Eli Roth, share advice via video. Here, Eli talks about the value of starting out as a PA on a movie to learn Filmmaking, Tarantino learned the ropes as a PA before he ran the show on Resevoir Dogs, Roth reminds filmmaker hopefulls:

TWIT IT @tromemoir

We’ve had alot of people asking us if we are on twitter, so due to popular demand, you can now find us on Twitter!  @tromemoir

We’d love to hear from you!   We don’t want you to just follow us, Tweet with us!

Obviously, Pops is a big twitter guy, If you are reading this post, chances are you follow him @lloydkaufman he is constantly on twitter, (as we told you before)  and finally he said “look kids: if you want to get serious, you have to get on Twitter. You aren’t living in the 20th century anymore.  this is 2011, I’ve been on Twitter since 2009!”

And it’s true. Dad is busted tweeting at the dinner table every five minutes, on family vacations, he can be found 24/7 furiously tweeting away away on his bberry.  And what we’ve noticed, sure he loves to post his rants, and he shares articles he thinks are interesting, (even tweets out posts we write here on the Tromemoir) and of course he promotes his own events and movies.  But the most important thing he uses twitter for is conversations back and forth with fans.

Dad is dedicated to his fans.  He may not have time to meet every single fan, talk on the phone, return a formal three paragraph email, but twitter lets him stay in touch with a huge number of fans throughout the day on a regular basis.

So like father, like daughters, we are going to try tweeting too.  We are going to take a lesson from our old pops, and use twitter to get to know you, dear fans better! so find us @tromemoir and feel free to ask away, tell us something about troma, ask about dad, about growing up toxic.

Troma Trivia Tuesday From Fangoria Magazine Managing Editor Mike Gingold

Q: What was the original title of the Troma Classic THE TOXIC AVENGER?
A: ???

We caught up with Fangoria Magazine Managing Editor Mike Gingold.  We were lucky he made time for us between being interviewed by the New York Times  as their go-to horror film expert and preparing for his upcoming role as a key panelist at TROMADANCE 2011!

Mike is a true Troma historian, and he clued us in to some early Troma Trivia!

Q: What was the Troma Classic THE TOXIC AVENGER originally called?

Do you know?  Post your answer here in the comments or send us an email at tromemoir@gmail.com

Check back in, we’ll post the answer, straight from LLOYD KAUFMAN here at the end of the week.

ODDITIES – TROMA TERATOMA?

please tell us, WHAT DO YOU THINK?? is it too much? to gross? too extreme to search for and film a TROMA TERATOMA?   tromemoir@gmail.com

I love the Discovery Channel Show Oddities.   This show has revived my respect for reality TV.  Set close to home in Brooklyn, this show follows bizzaro commerce Co-owners Mike Zohn and Evan Michelson have created in their shop  Obscura Antiques .   “Buyer” Ryan Matthew is always running around to “old friends” who might be able to sell him a shriveled cat mummy, or Grade A monkey skull, for the strangest customers.

So great, you ask, what does this have to do with Troma?  Well, I was having dinner with pops the other night after he finished his PSA for Peta (Don’t even get me started) The commercial featured humans dressed like animals in cages, (so in other words they weren’t clothed) and they were miserable, the point being, don’t put animals in cages, using Troma Shock Style to get the message across.

So over dinner, I asked dad, what’s up next? We got onto subhumanoid props for filming, and since he has his loyal allegiance to Peta, and he will not use any animal parts, but what would be really grotesque, really shocking?  so we got to the subject of TROMA TERATOMAS.

In case you are not familiar with Teratomas, these are benign tumors which can develop TEETH and HAIR and can be safely extracted from the human body! Gross but fascinating, and quite ODD.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teratoma Where oh where would one find a TROMA TERATOMA?? and it hit me  this just might be the type of thing Ryan Matthew could run around to one of his “Old Friends” to find in his fabulous shop of oddities.  Furthermore, they had recently run a “Scary Medical Devices” feature.

NET NEUTRALITY = WORLD WIDE (WEB) DEMOCRACY

A recent New York Times cover story reported Verizon and Google are nearing a deal which could threaten Net Neutrality and impede freedom of the internet as we know it.

Dad is always ranting about net neutrality, and he has been for a couple years.  You’ve probably seen his Net Neutrality PSA (click here) But WHAT IS NET NEUTRALITY?? We realized we don’t really understand.  So we cornered dad at his office and asked him to break down what Net Neutrality means, and why it is so important to you, me and anyone who uses the internet.

Michael Herz joined the discussion and added the important point that Net Neutrality levels the playing field beyond access alone, also guaranteeing the speed at which websites operate.  Without Net Neutrality some websites will run faster and with higher quality than others.

MESSAGE FROM LLOYD: FIGHT THE NET NEUTRALITY CONSPIRACY

THE BUZZ
Tell me more, Tell me more

As many of you may know, there was disastrous news on the front page of The New York Times [August 4th.] Verizon and other mega-conglomerates may have conspired to kill the last democratic medium: the Internet. It is imperative that we all take action immediately to fight for the only true agent of free information and diversity left in this country. Please spread my anti-mega-conglomerate PSA to all your contacts and post it on your blogs. Call the FCC and your elected representatives and urge them to defend net neutrality. Go to Save the Internet and contribute your thoughts. We must use the Internet to speak out on this matter while we still can. Despite the limits these profit-hungry mega-conglomerates have placed on various media over the years, independent thoughts have triumphed and found another outlet on the Internet. Net neutrality has ensured that no particular type of content is favored over any other. As an individual, I appreciate the Internet’s existence as an instrument of personal expression. As the president of an independent production company, I appreciate the necessity of its existence for all of us. But this democratic medium is being severely threatened. Verizon and Google are about to strike a deal which would allow Verizon to provide better, faster service to Internet content creators willing to pay. Thrown to the wayside will be independent artists and businesses that do not have funding. Specifically, a tiered payment-based system guarantees an end to any hope we have of Internet-based television or radio networks that don’t kowtow to these mega-conglomerates. Generally, it guarantees an end to the independent media voices of our country – a country that is supposed to be based on free thought and shared ideas. We must act swiftly to stand up for the freedoms of speech, expression and information upon which our country was founded.
